Don’t go thinking summer’s over just because it’s September 3. Even though the kiddies are at school, and the pools are closed, you still have a few more weeks to pretend it’s June 28.
Earlier this summer we asked you to choose your favourite summer movie ever. Our competition started out with 32 of the most beloved films, and ended with a battle between Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
So you could say, it was Harrison Ford versus Harrison Ford, and Harrison Ford.
Prior to beating Indy in the finale, Star Wars beat Jaws in the opening round, then it thoroughly destroyed Star Trek and Lethal Weapon II, before handily sending Marty McFly and Doc Brown Back to the Future.
Similarly, Indy whipped The Avengers, then Terminator, Forrest Gump and – surprise, surprise – Return of the Jedi.
Plenty of other notables were dispatched along the way including Die Hard (just for the record, it takes place at Christmas, but it was released, July 15, 1988), The Dark Knight, Iron Man, The Sixth Sense, The Hangover, Jurassic Park, The Goonies, Inception, Ghost, Dirty Dancing and more.
In the end, Star Wars won our Best Summer Movie Ever, with 61% of the vote. Sorry Indy fans. I, too, voted for Dr. Jones.
We’ll try this again at Christmas, where I predict the finale will be Christmas Vacation vs. It’s a Wonderful Life.
